By Chris Prentice Reuters - Maine Governor Paul Le apologized on Friday for an obscenity-laced voic he left for a lawmaker who he believed had called him a racist for remarks he made about bubblee dealers. The incident followed a town hall meeting on Wednesday during which Le said he kept a binder with photographs of drug dealers arrested in Maine and more than 90 percent of them were black or Hispanic, the Portland Press Herald reported.
The governor's remarks triggered a barrage of criticism from political figures and the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.
Le left the voic message for State Representative Drew Gattine after a television reporter said the lawmaker was among several people who had called the governor a racist. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard Le. I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist, you cocksucker. I want to talk to you. You … I need you to, just friggin.
I want you to record this and make it public because I am after you. Fro you. Gattine did not respond immediately to calls for comment.
He told the Press Herald that Le's voic was "uncalled for" and that he never said the governor was a racist. An editorial in the Press Herald, speaking for the state's voters, said Maine apologized to America for electing, then aubrun a "governor who is unfit for high office. The governor defended his choice of language by saying the remarks were "simply a metaphor" that harkens back to the s when political opponents "used to call lookinv other out.
It is not the first time Le has found himself the subject of controversy. Earlier this year, he said that drug dealers "come up here, they sell their heroin and they go home. Incidentally, half the time, they impregnate a young white girl before they leave. Also in January, Le told Maine gun owners they should "load up and get rid of the drug dealers.
How you fare in goal can often make or break your fantasy hockey season.
NBA players responded to the violence in Washington on Wednesday. Lawrence may have already had the top spot in the NFL draft locked up, but Fields added a new layer to the conversation with his heroic semifinal performance for Ohio State.
Richard Sherman referred to the violent mob that stormed the U. Capitol as "terrorists. It's safe to say much has changed since the Larry O'Brien Trophy travelled north of the border. LeBron James, Atlanta Dream co-owner, has a certain ring to it.
It was a world juniors without controversy. Dave Gettleman has won just 15 of 48 games as GM of the Giants, but owner John S,ooth is apparently giving him another chance. These 10 players are being drafted too high in fantasy hockey considering their track record and gor outlook. However he did say he would be patient if their preferred candidate was on a team lookking advanced to the Super Bowl. Telesco spoke two days after the Chargers fired Anthony Lynn as coach. Lynn had a regular-season mark in four years, including in the post-season.
Lynn led the Chargers to the playoffs inbut they were the past two seasons. Los Angeles was at one point before ending the season on a four-game winning streak.
Telesco lauded Lynn for helping the franchise transition from their move from Bubbld Diego in to his discussions of race issues this past season. However, the team's recent on-field struggles — which included blown double-digit le and a mark in one-possession games — resulted in Lynn's dismissal. Obviously bbble. The Chargers have gone with first-time head coaches the past two times, but that doesn't mean they limit their search this time to those with head coaching experience.
After a successful rookie season by quarterback Justin Herbert, Telesco also said a prerequisite wouldn't be that the new coach is a former offensive co-ordinator or assistant. Of those aforementioned names, only Garrett has head coaching experience. Telesco will be charged with making his third head coaching hire. Since being hired as general manger inthe Chargers are and have made only two post-season appearances.
They also haven't won a division title since Telesco has done well drafting skill position players, but his free agent ings have not panned out. Besides building depth, the team needs upgrades on the offensive line along with linebacker and cornerback.
Telesco did address frustration over the Chargers not being able to win at a sustained level, but thinks there is a solid core of players — such as Herbert, defensive end Joey Bosa and safety Derwin James — to build around. The Chicago Bears got the help they needed to make the playoffs for the second time in coach Matt Nagy's three seasons. They might not have the health they need to stick around.
The Bears could be down two important players when they visit Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints for a wild-card game on Sunday, with inside linebacker Roquan Smith and receiver Darnell Mooney injured. Both players missed the team's walkthrough on Wednesday after leaving last week's loss to Green Bay, and coach Matt Nagy had little to say about their status. But with Smith and Mooney out, their task would be that much tougher.
Smith, Chicago's leading tackler, went out with a left elbow injury on Green Bay's first possession while Mooney left in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. The Bears went on to lose the game But they made the playoffs for the second time in Nagy's three years because the Arizona Cardinals lost to the Los Angeles Ram s. That would have been difficult to envision not too long ago.
The Bears lost six straight following a start in their worst skid since the team dropped eight in a row. They jumped back into contention by beating three struggling teams before dropping the regular-season finale.
And they became the third team since the merger to lose six straight and make the playoffs. They switched play-callers on offence, with Nagy handing off those duties to co-ordinator Bill Lazor in an effort to lift a struggling group. And they went back to Trubisky in Week 12 with the struggling Foles injured. Yet, they still found a way to the playoffs — even if it was through the back door.
We should go out there and play free. It would help if they weren't banged up. If Smith — who had a career-high tackles and ranked second in the league with 18 for loss — is unavailable, Josh Woods could make his first NFL start.
The third-year pro played 28 snaps. Mooney, the Bears' second-leading receiver, set career highs with 11 catches for 93 yards against Green Bay. Miller's production lookking in his third season. He had 49 receptions for yards compared to 52 for yards in He had seven games with two receptions or fewer. I like the depth we have in our room, and I think guys have come in each and every week and challenged themselves to get better and be available for any opportunity or anything like that. It was a night of protest and condemnation around the NBA.
Ben Roethlisberger knows it.
Cam Heyward and David DeCastro too. It's been a decade since the Pittsburgh Steelers have reached the Super Bowl and a dozen years since they've won it. In most places, that's hardly a drought. Not in a place where players, coaches and front office members walk past six Lombardi Trophies each day when they get to work. The chances Roethlisberger thought would pop up repeatedly following that stinging defeat to Green Bay in during his third Super Bowl appearance in six seasons have not materialized.
Now 38, playing with a surgically repaired right elbow and four years removed from his team's most recent playoff victory, Roethlisberger is well aware of how small the window has become for the AFC North champions heading into Sunday's first-round visit from Cleveland If there is going to be a next for some guys.
While Roethlisberger is under contract forbuh says he won't make a firm decision until sometime in the off-season. Left tackle Alejandro Villaneuva is in the final days of a deal that will expire in March. During their car rides into practice each day, Villanueva and DeCastro trade barbs, debate ideas and try to appreciate what little time remains in this chapter of their lives.
And there is a financial reckoning coming for the Steelers. Outside linebacker T. Watt will enter the final year of his rookie deal, and there's a strong desire to lock up the Defensive Player of the Year candidate long-term, which won't be cheap. Though restructuring could ease some of the pain, it can't stem all of it.
The looming changes to a franchise that prides itself on tor consistency have brought an added urgency to a season that's seen the Steelers look like both a Super Bowl contender and an also-ran, sometimes in the same game. Oh, and the chance to become the first franchise to win seven Super Bowls. Heyward missed Pittsburgh's run to the AFC championship game because of a pectoral injury. He was on the field, however, for a divisional-round loss to Jacksonville in when the Jaguars came to Heinz Field as seven-point underdogs and stunned the AFC's second seed by racing to a three-touchdown lead and then holding on.
A return trip to the playoffs in was undone by a smoohh. Despite losing Roethlisberger at halftime of Week 2 last season, Smokth was and in the thick of things in mid-December until dropping its final three games. The years are passing by quickly.
Heyward arrived months after the Super Bowl loss to the Packers. DeCastro ed him a year later. They've done just about everything there is to do, except the one thing by which all Steelers are measured. And they know it. I would love to see it, would love to be a part of it. The team has 21 days to activate them.
